Thinking about when Jean said he was vain enough to care about the hair Riko had ripped out . Can we all stop making him call himself ugly now . Also can we all bring Riko back to life and beat him to death with hammers

mary taking neil away before he could go to the nest actually robbed us of the manipulative wife poisoning your food she prepared for dinner sly smile you both know its poisoned but you eat it anyway neilriko dynamic... the slow carefully built self led destructive downfall of riko but with the twist that neil is there by his side the entire time even as he orchestrates it...kevjean children of divorced parents type dynamic...

(The Sunshine Court, ch.2)
Everything I read this, it hits home a little harder just how much psychological torment Jean endured. Like, he had to live with all of the Ravens, including those that hurt him, but he could at least avoid them to some extent, right? They were all stuck in the nest, but Zane was his partner, which shouldn't have been too bad.
But then Kevin left and he had to be partners with Riko, the man behind the myriad of scars littering his body and his fear of water and fire. And, as if that weren't horrific enough, then Neil got marked for Court.
Zane, Jean's only begrudging ally, stabbed him in the back, and Grayson assaulted him. It seems like Riko made them hurt each other, but that wouldn't have made it any easier for Jean to be around them. And Jean just had to continue going to classes with both of them. He had to continue rooming with Zane. I can't even fathom wheat it would have been like to spend that much time with the people who did all of that to him.

Thinking about how Riko's actions served to bring about his own downfall.
But I've also been thinking about how much of this was mirrored by his counterpart.
Riko's goal was to be number one, to be recognised, particularly by his father, to be a star.
But he was too focussed on revenge (endangering his father's interests by pulling strings he had no right to pull and trying to sign up a Moriyama fugitive), and spite (sabotaging his team by hospitalising his best players and making his backliners enemies).
A few people have spelt out exactly how Riko's actions thwarted his own goal including... this post by @deeppenguinstudent and this detailed one by @darkblueboxs and others.
So Riko never achieved his goal. He ended up dying in the shadows, still unseen by his father. Even his death was covered up.
Whereas Neil's goal was the opposite - he wanted to remain obscured, hidden, especially from his father, and just to stay alive.
But all of Neil's actions seemed to work against this.
Signing up with Kevin who (i) was a mafia asset (ii) knew all his secrets and (iii) would put him in the public eye.
Not to mention antagonising the mf Yakuza on national television because pretty green eyes looked sad.
And then sticking around once Neil had a definite target on his back, because goalkeeper.
And in the end, Neil defeated his own goal - he was revealed to everyone, including his father, he became famous. He was a worldwide star.
We could say the moral is: after Neil joined the Foxes, his choices were increasingly about reinforcing teamwork, which eventually lead to his victory. Whereas Riko's choices were all about eroding teamwork, which lead to his defeat.
But I think it's deeper than that.
Neil's goal was never really obscurity; it was stardom all along. That man wanted an entire stadium on its feet, screaming their heads off just for him. He wanted it more than life itself. Neil got exactly what he really wanted.
Which makes me think what Riko really wanted, deep down, was what all the broken Ravens ended up seeking... an ending.

This is a group project by me and @squiishiichaos for the @aftgreverse (big bang)
Here's a link to squiishi's fic.
If someone had told Neil before he went to bed that night that he would wake up in his past body some eight hours later, he probably would’ve laughed and called them crazy.  The idea was never supposed to be real.   It was never supposed to come to fruition.  It was supposed to be a pipe dream–a fantasy shared between the two of them that never once saw the light of day.  How that simple pipe dream had somehow gotten them here , though, Neil couldn't be sure

I think it's quite obvious that the SA Jean went through was a means of control Riko had over him, but I think it's interesting how it was quite literally a very VERY popular technique in the 20th century to "correct" homosexuality.
Like in the instance of aversion therapy where they'd show illicit pictures of the same sex and inject a person with vomit inducing drugs in order to make their brain stimulate disgust and repulsion when the same sex comes on.
I don't know whether it was intentional, but it just makes me think especially after it was said in TSC that he knows not to look at men for too long.

Thinking abt andrew and neil playing each others positions one game. not telling anyone. they don’t have that big of a height difference, so despite playing differences. Andrew knowing riko is gonna try something, so he takes Neil’s place. He doesn’t tell neil.

Okay, I might be pulling this out of my ass but since that finals match was in Evermore that means the foxes should have been wearing their white away jerseys. Which means: the final match was a game of chess.
Not only are they wearing white, but they have first serve (Dan won the coin toss), and near the end the Foxes' king (Neil, because this is a battle between Riko and Neil) changes positions with the tower (Matt, a defenseman that towers over most people) creating the illusion of a castling.
And right there at the end, Riko attempts to kill Neil because they're in front of each other, but that's not how kings work. In the time it takes him to take that step, Andrew closes the gap and strikes. Check mate.

i still think its hilarious how neil went 'kevin and i talk about your intricate and endless daddy issues all the time' because they literally never do. he just made that up and dragged kevin under the bus as well for no fucking reason other than to be dramatic.

sometimes I think about how Riko was stuck alone in evermore having to do a history degree that he hated because Kevin diva Day complained every day until he gave up and agreed under the sole condition that Kevin did his work for him, only for kevin to leave. I have to giggle a little

i do think riko and neil couldve matched each others freak like crazy in the nest if neil had grown up a raven...i just also think it probably would've led to like some really weird sex and then at least 4 murders.

The real tattoos
Drawing these made me realise I can’t wait for the rest of Jean’s reinvention. He’s the most powerful force on the board and hasn’t even got started yet…
